Board of Directors

Bruce Brown – Non Executive Chairman

Bruce is the Non Executive Chairman of Mastermyne and is Chairman of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee.

Bruce spent 29 years of his professional life with Campbell Brothers Limited holding various roles including Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director and in 2005 Bruce was appointed Non Executive Director of Campbell Brothers Limited, a position he still currently holds.

Bruce is also currently Deputy Chairman of Transpacific Industries Group Limited, and Chairman of their Audit Risk Management and Compliance Committee, a Director and former Chairman of Accord (Advocate for the Consumer, Cosmetic, Hygiene and Specialty Products Industry) and Chairman at Phi Capital Aged Care Limited.

Previously Bruce was a Director of QDL Limited, Director of the Queensland Confederation of Industry. More recently, Bruce was the Chairman of Flight Centre, following on from his appointment as a Non Executive director of Flight Centre in 2005.

Bruce brings a wealth of Public company experience to Mastermyne.

Darren Hamblin – Non Executive Director

Darren is a co-founder and Non Executive Director of Mastermyne and is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and the Remuneration and Nomination Committee.

With an engineering background, Darren's strength is in optimising projects throughout the business. Darren has a strong record of delivering on major mining projects and a solid reputation for an analytical and commonsense approach to complex issues.

Most recently Darren’s involvement has progressed to focus on long term development of business strategies and systems.

Darren has previously been involved in tendering, and developing many of the working models around remuneration calculators and job costing. More recently Darren has Project Managed the implementation of the management information system (PRONTO)

Andrew Watts – Executive Director

Andrew is a co-founder and Managing Director of Mastermyne and has been involved with contracting in the mining industry since 1984.

Andrew has managed a very broad range of projects with extensive experience in all facets of management from Shift Supervision, Project Supervision and Operations Management.

Andrew’s focus is on business Development and the acquisition growth side of the company. Andrew’s management experience along with extensive tendering and HR knowledge provides a solid platform for Mastermyne’s growth.


Senior Management

Tony Caruso – Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Tony is responsible for all business divisions of Mastermyne.

Tony has a wealth of experience in the mining service industry, with a particular focus in underground contract mining. Tony has exclusively worked in the Industry since 1989, before joining Mastermyne in 2005. Tony’s roles have ranged from various project management roles to his current position of Chief Executive Officer.

Combined with his strong trade background he has a post graduate degree in Business Management and is a member of the Australian Institute of Management. Tony has a strong reputation for being result-focused, for driving growth and drawing the best out of high performance leaders.

Tim Miles – Chief Financial Officer

Tim is responsible for the management of Mastermyne’s corporate services which cover finance, reporting and structuring, treasury, project accounting, taxation, investment evaluation and risk management. Tim is a chartered accountant with more than 14 years experience.

Prior to joining Mastermyne in 2007, Tim held senior finance positions in the agriculture, tourism, retail, and foreign aid and international development industries, with particular strength in strategic financial advice to boards.

Allan Purse – General Manager

Allan is a General Manger at Mastermyne and overseas operations across numerous mine sites in the mining operations division.

Allan has been working underground since 1975 working in a variety of settings ranging from maintenance in bord and pillar panels and development environments to production roles with some of Australia’s largest longwalls. In 1998, Allan started with MIM at Newlands Southern underground in QLD. More recently he has been Production Manager at Newlands Northern underground operations.

During his career, Allan has led teams to achieve a variety of industry benchmarks for safety and production. Allan’s strengths are his hands-on practical experience and strong people and leadership skills. He has held roles from leading hand thru to SSE during his career which allows Allan a grass roots understanding of issues and enhances his contribution at the senior management arena.

Gary Macintyre – General Manager

Gary Macintyre is the General Manager at DRE Electrical. He has 26 years experience in the mining industry and founded DRE Electrical with Jake Hutchinson in 2005.

Gary started in the coal industry as an Electrical Apprentice at Moura mine in 1981. After qualifying as a tradesman he spent a further 4 years as an underground section electrician at Moura No 2 Underground. During this time he studied air conditioning and refrigeration externally.

In 1988 he moved to Western Australia and became an Electrical Supervisor at Hamersley Iron in Paraburdoo. After 4 years Gary moved to PNG to work at the Ok Tedi Copper mine as an Electrical Supervisor, hired to form part of the Inpit crusher commissioning team and to run the Crushing and Conveying electrical department. He later became General Foreman in charge of Shovels and Drills, Crushing and Conveying and qualified as a Registered Mine Electrician.

In 1995 Gary and family returned to Australia and settled in Mackay. He worked for General Electric for 10 years as a Field Engineer, specialising in the commissioning and troubleshooting of Dragline electrical systems. During this time he commissioned many new and overhauled draglines throughout the Bowen basin.

Gary studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern Queensland from 2000 and graduated in 2003 with an Associate Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

In 2005 he joined Jake Hutchinson, a successful electrical contractor, forming DRE Electrical, and in July 2007 the company became part of the Mastermyne Group.

Gary is well regarded in the industry and is known for his professional approach and attention to detail. He aims to continue guiding DRE Electrical and to provide technical assistance to the team.

Neil Parsons Young – General Manager

Neil was a founder at PYD Mining Services and a General Manager at Mastermyne. Neil is responsible for PYD’s NSW mining operations. Neil started in the coal mining industry in 1983 in the Ipswich coal fields as a QCA Cadet Manager. He started an operator and worked his way up to an ERZ Controller on the longwall at Crinum Mine whilst completing the AD in Coal Mining. Neil has 12 years of experience in running and supervising large projects such as secondary support installation, longwall installation and relocation, gate road development and LTU/belt installation. Neil has also worked as a Control Room Operator at Crinum Mine and as the Training Coordinator at Dendrobium Mine NSW.

Neil has 22 years of underground coal mining experience to relate to in the operation of PYD Mining Services.
