Want to pursue a career in Underground Coal Mining?

Myne Start Roof BoltingMyne Start Underground Training Complex simulates underground conditions like no other facility.
The training program has been designed to accelerate the skills development and operational readiness of cleanskins to assist them in becoming experienced underground miners.
Participants who are successful in completing the 4 week training program are guaranteed a position as a fulltime underground miner in the Bowen Basin.

The work readiness program includes topics such as:

  • Hazard identification & risk management
  • Roof & rib bolting
  • Isolation principles
  • Install & remove conveyor belt structure
  • Personal & equipment tagging procedures
  • Lifting and slinging
  • Ventilation management
  • Mine services (install and recover)
  • Personnel & equipment interaction
  • Unaided escape (emergency exercises)
  • Surface mine operations

The Course:

4 week training program consisting of:
Week 1: Monday to Friday 7.00am to 5.00pm
Week 2, 3 & 4: Monday to Thursday 6.00am to 6.00pm 

  • $1,650 (incl. GST) non refundable registration fee to be paid 2 weeks prior to commencement of training for the Inexperienced Mineworker Course.  This fee may vary with other courses.
  • $12,100 (incl. GST) course fee: negotiable repayment options available via salary sacrifice.
  • All underground PPE (including uniforms and boots) provided.
  • Statements of Attainment issued as part of the course:
    • Standard 11 surface and underground
    • Apply First Aid
    • Underground Slinging and Lifting
    • Working at Heights

Participant requirements:

Participants apply for a placement in the program by forwarding their resume. Each application will be assessed against our selection criteria and a shortlist of applicants will be interviewed. The most suitable candidates will be selected to participate in the training program. Successful candidates will be required to complete a registration form, pay the deposit and pass a Coal Board Medical.

Course Dates:

Courses are run monthly from January to November.
