Apprentices to Receive Myne Start Advantage
This week eight Moranbah teenagers will receive invaluable real-life experience as an underground coal miner thanks to Mastermyne’s Myne Start facility.
Employed by Anglo American’s Moranbah North underground coal mine as apprentices and trainees, the eight participants will complete a five day practical underground simulation in the Mastermyne Myne Start underground training facility, as part of a required 13 day Mine Readiness Program. This training will enable the young new miners to become more safety aware and develop a better understanding of the safety culture that the mining industry has built for all employees, including those like them who are only just entering the industry.
The course is being run by 4Sight Training Solutions from the Myne Start training facility on Prospect Street in Mackay.
The course has been specifically created as a work readiness program for new young employees, customised to meet Moranbah North safety requirements and procedures.
Justin Murray, training and development superintendent at Anglo American’s Moranbah North coal mine says the “real benefit for these new employees will be the realism of the underground simulated environment without exposing them to the inherent hazards of working in an underground environment.”
“Anglo American is flying the flag with Mastermyne’s Myne Start facility, being the first to harness the unique training possibilities that a facility like this offers.”
